SUMMARY

Translates written instructions from customers into programs to print direct mail personalized products. Assists the computer support and senior programming staff in the development, maintenance and support of critical software systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following prioritized and categorized duties.  Other duties may be assigned.

Production Programming Functions

  • Creates and manipulates basic DataComm output formats
  • Links and processes record/file at one-to-one and one-to-many level
  • Works with delimited/variable length field/records
  • Performs sorts and merges.
  • Manipulates Keyline for customer M/P
  • Formats reports in DoubleTake
  • Processes and outputs supporting data based on core in-house procedures
  • Able to utilize in-house M/P process

 COBOL

  • Creates and manipulates index files and file and/or memory table
  • Composes and compiles programs
  • Manipulates binary, hex, and packed data types

 Batch/Utility Creation

  • Creates and executes batch scripts
  • Builds general-purpose utility programs
  • Sets and uses variables and error levels
  • Builds utilities using script drive logic
  • Maintains and enhances batches utilities in support of core in-house processes

 Process Optimization and Resource Utilization

  • Monitors and regulates personal local and network storage quotas
  • Creates and works with compressed file formats
  • Optimizes application level i/o concepts
  • Monitors and regulates resource utilization at department level

 Production

  • Writes instruction for computer operators
  • Develops procedures to improve the processing of direct mail production
  • Analyzes and recommends corrective action for problems with customer instructions and data
  • Stays abreast on USPS postal regulations
  • Operates high capacity laser printers and PC in a production network environment
  • Distributes completed work
  • Works overtime and weekends as needed

 Quality Control

  • Responsible for the timely and accurate programming of customer's jobs.
  • Works to insure customer's expectations of quality and timeliness are met.
  • Analyzes PC operation problems and recommend corrective actions

Communication & Information Management

  • Notifies management of any jobs that cannot be completed as scheduled or have problems with instructions or data
  • Maintains a program library
  • Manages disk space and purges old data
  • Prepares accurate records
  • Prints computer reports

 Programming

  • Develops and debugs software systems.
  • Diagnose and repairs existing software systems
  • Maintains IS Department data tables

 Administrative

  • Insures the successful completion of nightly automated data processing
  • Generates ad-hoc reports as required by users.

 Safety

  • Knows and follows all department safety procedures
  • Reports all work related injuries to supervisor

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associates or Bachelor's degree from college or university or equivalent from a technical school; and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
