HOURS: 2pm - 10pm, Monday through Friday


JOB SUMMARY

The Prepress Specialist performs tasks in prepress to facilitate the production of files, graphics, proofs, and plates and works in concert with other departments and individuals to ensure timely resolution of problems and accurate production of customers' jobs.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

Production

  • Modifies customer files with regard to layout, typesetting and design

  • Uses appropriate templates and applies proper page imposition and press specifications

  • Handles font management issues

  • Understands trapping concepts, deals with trapping issues and competently utilizes trapping software, and can trap manually if necessary in an offset workflow

  • Typesets simple documents

  • Recognizes requirements and limitations necessary to prepare a job for laser personalization

  • Prepares a job for laser personalization

  • Produces accurate proofs and plates

  • Assists in Preflight on a rotating basis and is proficient in the process

  • Stays abreast of current postal regulations and requirements necessary to accurately produce direct mail packages.

  • Operates PC/Windows and Apple Macintosh workstations and is cross-platform competent

  • Works competently in all major software packages including Kodak Prinergy, Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office, and Preps 8.0 imposition software; Experience with Inspire a plus

  • Knowledgeable with a PDF workflow

  • Understands print specifications including (not limited to) bleeds, resolution, separations, etc

  • Works overtime when necessary, including weekends

Quality Control

  • Reads, comprehends and carries out all pertinent instructions

  • Proofreads accurately

  • Focuses on customer satisfaction issues

  • Commits to excellence in all facets of job

  • Evaluates and quality checks files, proofs, and plates produced

  • Verifies scans for effective printing on Navistar presses

  • Communication & Problem Solving

  • Communicates clearly both verbally and in writing with supervisors, CSRs, and all other employees

  • Deals with customers and employees in a professional manner at all times

  • Troubleshoots problems and implements corrective actions to produce proofs and plates in a timely manner

Training

  • Contributes to the training of department personnel as well as those in Customer Service and Sales

  • Assists with the training of established prepress employees in job techniques and requirements

Safety

  • Knows and follows the safety procedures of the department

  • Reports work related injuries to a supervisor

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
